Showcase Cinema - Box Trolls
Saturday 8th November 2014

As always it was a huge success and Box Trolls was a hit with the kids and adults alike. We had the room to ourselves again so it didn't matter if the children need to get up and stretch or go explore! It was a nice relaxed atmosphere as always and it was also lovely to meet some new families who had come along too.

Thursday 30th October 2014

What a fantastic day! The weather started off looking foggy and damp but this quickly went and was replaced with a lovely autumn day in absolutely beautiful surroundings - we really couldn't have asked for better.

We were greeted on arrival by the Nell Bank staff then treated to a fantastic interactive Gruffalo Hunt which included finding the mouse and all the animals, pond dipping, a small beast hunt, making a Gruffalo Crumble and building a house for the mouse. Then to finish it all off we had a play in the water park. My boy had to get changed twice (though he was the only one in fairness!) which is ALWAYS the sign of a fun and active day.

Both coaches are experienced in multi sports and deliver the disability sports camp as well as some of the regular athletics and multi-sport clubs at John Charles Sports Centre. Both coaches also have a disability and compete to quite a high level in their respective sports so are excellent role models for children with a disability.

Brad and Nick entertained the children beautifully with playground games and FUNdamentals which was basic coordination games with the children.

Disability Rocks Logo Blunderbus Theatre Day - Dotty the Dragon
Saturday 9th August 2014

Held at the Irwin Mitchell offices in Leeds we were treated to face painting, a lovely lunch and a relaxed telling of a heartwarming story of Dotty the Dragon:

Dotty is a baby fire dragon. She lives at the top of a mountain with her grumpy dad, Mr Dragon.

In the village below, everyone fears for their lives, for dragon's eat children! Or so they believe. But, Dotty would never eat children! Not ever...

Instead, she loves to gaze down and watch the children playing in the orchard, - and one day, she decides to pay them a surprise visit. After all, everyone loves surprises, - don't they?

Blunderbus is proud to present this enchanting fairytale adventure with a very happy ending. This clever new show comes to life with an irresistible blend of live music, fabulous puppets and high energy storytelling.

Disability Rocks Logo Little Hiccups Birthday Party: Royal Armouries and Dino Jaws
Sunday 13th July 2014

For Little Hiccups' Birthday we went BIG! This year Leeds hosted dinosaurs from the National History Museum and we didn't want to miss out! We organised a private room on the first floor (fully accessible) in the Royal Armories where we put on a fabulous birthday lunch (with cake of course) then at everyone's leisure we wandered across to see the Dinosaurs on Armories Drive.

Featuring the most frighteningly life-like moving dinosaurs ever created, this family blockbuster exhibition explores the sometimes gruesome, and often disgusting, subject of dinosaurs and their food. We were taken back in time to see dinosaurs and their prey and managed to get a glimpse into the amazing world that it must have been. My favourite definately had to be the enormous and very life like Tyrannasaurus Rex at the end!

Also thank you to my wonderful photographer for the day - Evie Griffin (see the selfie below!)

"I thought the event was well organised and fully accessible"

"We really liked the seated party lunch, it was nice to be treated to such a posh birthday party"

"Amazing sense of community at the birthday party"

Trailblazer LogoTrailblazer LogoMillion Steps Challenge
Sunday 6th July 2014

Well we smashed it! We aimed for 1,000,000 and got 1,219,786. The day was a massive success with the weather turning out beautiful. We had families enjoying their picnics and children playing in the park. But best of all was the enthusiasm of all our runners. From children as young as 18mths, Little Hiccup families all the way up to Boxers and some very fit people indeed - everyone gave it their absolute best.

With many thanks to everyone involved organising the day: Antony 'Trailblazer' Newby from Trailblazer Bootcamps who first dared to dream that this was indeed possible, Vince Heckman from Thermo Casa who very kindly purchased a buggy for us, John H Stracey for presenting it and donating a fantastic collage of his boxing career to be auctioned by Brendan O'Connor who helped make this day possible, the Little Hiccups Committee and Conquerors for helping out and to everyone who ran the steps, raised money and felt the pain the next day! And of course to our amazing sponsors Simpson Millar Solicitors. And hopefully I have remembered everyone!

Disability Rocks Logo Disability Rocks 2014
Saturday 7th June 2014

Disability Rocks develop new and innovative ways to help people living with disabilities have positive experiences of music and arts. It’s clear that live music and arts activities and involvement can have a hugely positive impact on people’s lives.

Nell Bank is most certainly the biggest and busiest outdoor, inclusive education centre in the UK set in the beautiful Wharfedale valley with a stunning backdrop of Ilkley Moor thrown in!

Well, when we went the weather was absolutely appalling with constant pouring rain and a lot of the families ended up not making it. However, those that did go ended up having a fantastic time! The organisers rearranged at the last minute in preparation of bad weather and the main stage was now under shelter. The kids enjoyed eating pizza listening to hits by One Direction and Pink (and then my knowledge of popular music runs out I'm afraid!) Then they managed to spend a very long time listen to stories told by a woman with an amazing story-telling ability. Those of you that know my son knows that he has an inability to sit still. There was no problem in this case. I wanted to hire her and bring her home with me!

I think I actually enjoyed the rain in the end. We went knowing that it was going to be there and knowing that we would get soaked. Spare clothes and shoes were packed in the boot. But I haven't played in the rain in a long time and it was fun to do it again. I went intending to go for an hour and ended up spending four hours there. A good day was had by all!

"The weather was rubbish but we had fun and will be going there again. Thank you "

"I think the event would have been great, as it is clear that it was very well organised and the organisers deserve our support and respect for doing their best in very bad conditions"

"We really liked the place, we would love to go again when it's a bit dryer so we can have a better look at the play areas"

Headingley Childrens Centre logo Stay and Play with a Happy Dance twist!
Thursday 17th April 2014

You may remember that Little Hiccups won a Grant from Grass Roots last year that helped pay for our summer activities. Well...they've been back in touch and asked us to film a short clip of us singing and dancing to the 'Happy' Dance by Pharrell Williams.

Little Hiccups was up to the challenge of spreading happiness and made a video of our families singing. Hopefully, we'll get this up soon!

Monkey Maze logo Softplay at Monkey Maze
Saturday 29th March 2014

We booked a Soft Play area for our March event so that the kids can blow off steam while the weather is still nasty outside. Monkey Maze very kindly allowed us to hire the place out to ourselves which they don't normally do! The feedback we received was all positive with parents being grateful of being able to allow their children to have fun in a safe environment and I saw plenty of adults enjoying themselves too!

"Great event - thank you so much"

"We enjoyed the whole experience, the photographer was very patient with Rhys and even allowed him to take some photos of us as he kept asking to!! "

"Dean was fantastic with the kids and had some really good ideas, very natural and we all had a really good time. Awesome Photos too!"
